Every great meal starts with someone who cares.
Behind every breakfast served, every decorated brunch buffet, and every favorite recipe prepared is a team of dedicated culinary professionals who choose to make a difference every single day. While many cooks, servers, and dishwashers could work in traditional restaurants, they have chosen a different path—one where the people they serve become neighbors, friends, and even family.
In this Staff Spotlight, we’re highlighting the incredible individuals who make our dining programs special. Their stories remind us that senior living is about much more than preparing and serving meals—it’s about creating comfort, building relationships, celebrating life’s moments, and making every resident feel at home.
We asked members of our culinary teams to share why they chose senior living and what makes this work so meaningful. Here are their stories.

As Culinary Director at Hudson Grande, I was inspired to work in senior living because of the work-life balance. After late nights in traditional restaurants, senior living offered a different rhythm. It gave me the chance to keep doing culinary work in a more meaningful setting.
Culinary in senior living still brings energy, creativity, and challenge. It also brings steady relationships with residents and families. That connection helps make the work feel personal.
Residents have taught me patience. They have also reminded me that everything happens for a reason. Their perspective helps me avoid getting caught up in one difficult moment.
One favorite event is any event where I can cook outside on the grill. Those moments feel special because residents are nearby. Cooking outdoors creates conversation, connection, and a relaxed sense of community.
Success in this work takes open communication. It also takes the ability to accept feedback with a positive attitude. Residents should feel comfortable sharing what they enjoy and what could improve.
Strong leadership matters, too. A Culinary Director should be in the thick of it with the team. Jumping in to help speaks volumes. It shows support, builds trust, and helps create a stronger dining experience for residents.
One moment that showed the impact of this work came through family appreciation. Families have come up to thank me for taking great care of their loved ones. Their gratitude means a great deal.
Positive reviews about how the team supports residents also make a difference. They show that culinary work reaches beyond the plate. Great food, attentive service, and daily care help families feel confident that their loved ones are supported.
Every member of our culinary team has a unique story, but they all share one thing in common—a passion for serving others.
Whether they’re preparing a resident’s favorite comfort food, celebrating a birthday, or simply greeting someone with a smile, their work goes far beyond the kitchen. They create moments of joy, foster meaningful relationships, and help make our communities feel like home.
To every cook, server, dishwasher, and culinary leader who chooses senior living over a traditional restaurant, thank you. Your compassion, dedication, and commitment to hospitality make a lasting impact on the lives of our residents every single day.
Together, we’re not just serving meals—we’re serving memories.
