Each year, I select a Word of the Year—a meaningful word that guides my focus and intentions both personally and professionally. As the Executive Director at Hudson Grande Senior Living in Hudson, Ohio, the start of a new year is a time to reset, refocus, and prepare for upcoming opportunities and challenges.
My chosen word serves as an anchor, shaping how I lead my team, support families, and care for residents. Reflecting on 2024, I am amazed by the profound impact this practice has had on my journey.
The Word of the Year for 2024 was present. I realized that juggling multiple issues often prevented me from fully engaging in the moment. By focusing on presence, I reshaped my decisions, relationships, and growth throughout the year.
This practice encouraged me to pause, listen, and truly engage with others. By doing so, I connected more deeply, understood diverse perspectives, and actively participated in conversations. These intentional efforts strengthened relationships, built trust, and created a solid foundation for future interactions.
Being present has allowed me to fully experience emotional and meaningful moments that I might have otherwise overlooked. I have found this deeper connection to the community incredibly fulfilling. I remain committed to maintaining this focus on presence as I move forward.
For 2025, my Word of the Year is verify. This word reflects my commitment to fostering trust and ensuring accountability in all areas of leadership. Verify represents the importance of following through, maintaining transparency, and holding myself and my team accountable for achieving our shared goals.
With this focus, I aim to build on the trust established through presence in 2024. By verifying and ensuring the reliability of processes, decisions, and actions, I plan to strengthen the leadership foundation within our community and create an environment of accountability and mutual respect.
As 2025 approaches, I am reflecting on the lessons of 2024 and preparing for a new chapter guided by my next Word of the Year. Choosing a Word of the Year isn’t about having all the answers. It’s about setting an intention and remaining open to the journey it inspires.
