2023 Reflection on Word of the Year: Collaboration

Category: Senior Living

Author: Cheryl Walker, Executive Director

As we wrap up 2023, we reflect on months past and what lies ahead with our community’s journey.

If you recall, our Personal and Professional Development Coach, Michael “Buck” Buckley, challenged us to pick a “Word of the Year” in January 2023. Buck asked us to look inward and consider what we need more of or what might improve our lives. The time has come to revisit our Word of the Year for 2023 and explore its impact on Hudson Grande Senior Living. Whether you’ve been an active member or are just joining us, this retrospective journey invites us all to celebrate the past year.

Our community Word of the Year for 2023 was ‘collaboration.’ We achieved many successes and improved our community throughout the year, living in line with our word. Examples of collaboration include initiating weekly meetings with Fox Rehabilitation to discuss residents’ care needs and progress.  Always Best Home Care is also meeting weekly to ensure care needs are being discussed and met.

The team collaborated well when planning community events. We met with the executive team at Western Reserve Hospital to better understand needs and form a strong partnership. Wellness Wednesday is also a huge success. This collaborative effort involves inviting healthcare vendors to visit our community and talk with the residents. This has become a social event our residents look forward to.

We lived out our word. We focused on collaboration as a team. This was an excellent way for us to improve communication and resident outcomes.

In 2024, I look forward to working closely with Western Reserve Hospital to become a resource for them, grow our community outreach, and celebrate with our residents and staff.

As we bid farewell to 2023, we will carry forward the essence of our Word of the Year into 2024. The successes and strides of our community, the embodiment of our chosen word in our collective actions, are not just markers in time but a testament to the strength of this community.

I look forward to catching our 2024 Word of the Year blog soon!
